enjoy Nature In Humboldt Redwoods State Park

The great outdoors are just a short drive from Hampton Inn & Suites Arcata in California's third largest state park and the world's largest redwood forest. Covering 53,000 acres on the Avenue of the Giants, Humboldt Redwood State Park delivers dozens of things to see and do. Make your way through the Rockefeller Forest and check out the aptly named Rockefeller Tree, which is an incredible 362 feet tall. Take a scenic hike or bike ride on one of the many trails or sign up for a guided nature walk. You'll also be able to engage in water activities, such as swimming, fishing, and boating.


Prices -

There is no fee to enter the Park or Visitor Center. An $8 vehicle fee is charged at Williams Grove Day Use Area. 

Hours -

Park is open 24/7. Visitor Center is open 9:00 a.m-5:00 p.m. (April-October) & 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. (November-March).

  • are there bears in the park?

    Black bears have been known to make an appearance in Humboldt Redwoods State Park. Usually they come out at night but there are have been sightings during daylight hours. And while they are mostly shy when encountering people, you have to remember that they’re wild animals and have the potential to be dangerous. Be advised that if you do come into contact with a bear, it’s best to stay where you are and make a lot of noise while waving your arms.
  • What Kind of Weather Can I Expect?

    The weather in Humboldt Redwoods State Park is cool and wet in the spring and winter. Daytime temperatures are in the 50s and drop to the 30s at night. In the summer, it’s in the 70s to 80s in the day and 50s to 60s at night with no rain. You’ll find the fall to be mostly dry with temperatures in the upper 60s and low 70s in the day and high 40s at night. As for clothing, it’s best to bring layers as temperatures have been known to change rather quickly.
